Duke and Daisy got to thinking about kids today with all the Covid -19 restrictions that kept them from their usual fun activities. They decided that Peter Pan would be a guy to help kids have fun and feel free and adventurous. Since the author of Peter Pan is J.M. Barrie and it’s Mr. Barrie’s birthday on May 9; it would be fun to remember Mr. Barrie’s birthday and spend time with Peter Pan. They think that the birthday of Mr. Barrie is sort of like the birthday of Peter Pan.

For starters, they would like to introduce the birthday boy and his creation.

Who is James Matthew Barrie?

Scottish author and playwright James Matthew Barrie was born on May 9, 1860, in Kirriemuir, Angus, Scotland. He was the seventh of his parents’ eight surviving children. Two of his older siblings died before his birth. His father, David Barrie, was a reasonably successful weaver.

He was born May 9, 1890.

And best known as the author of Peter Pan.

Peter Pan is a fictional character created by Scottish novelist and playwright J. M. Barrie.  Mr. Barrie created a free-spirited and mischievous young boy who can fly and never grows up.  Peter Pan spends his never-ending childhood having adventures on the mythical island of Neverland. He is also the leader of the Lost Boys, interacting with fairies, pirates, mermaids, Native Americans, and occasionally ordinary children from the world outside Neverland.

Duke and Daisy discover many reasons why Peter Pan is still active in kids’ lives because of all the life lessons kids learn from Peter Pan. Here are some of the Peter Pan lessons that he found.

The Postivemom celebrated Peter Pan’s anniversary with these Five lessons.

Olivia Isett, Disney, list 13 Things I Learned from Peter Pan.

Duke and Daisy have a suggestion to continue J.M.’s Birthday celebration this summer to visit his home in Scotland.
